Where we stand and why it matters

What We Believe

What a church believes shapes everything it becomes. We are an evangelical church, which simply means the good news about Jesus Christ is at the centre of who we are. We hold these truths not as dry facts to tick off, but as the living reality we love, obey, and delight in. We want to know God truly and enjoy Him deeply, and sound belief is where that begins.

Below is a short summary of what we hold. A full statement of faith is available for those who want every detail, and our Deeper resources go further on each area.

The Bible

We believe the Bible is the word of God, inspired, trustworthy, and without error in its original writings. It is our final authority for what we believe and how we live. It is clear enough to be understood and sufficient for everything God calls us to.

All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (CSB)

Scripture: 2 Peter 1:20-21, Psalms 19:7, Hebrews 4:12

God

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is holy, good, and completely sovereign over all things. He made us, He rules over us, and He is worthy of all our worship.

Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 28:19, Isaiah 6:3, Psalms 115:3

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross in the place of sinners, rose bodily from the dead, and reigns today as Lord. He is the only way to God, and one day He will return. Everything we do centres on Him.

Scripture: John 1:1, John 1:14, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, John 14:6, Philippians 2:9-11

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is God, present and active in the church today. He gives spiritual gifts to build up God's people, and we expect Him to work among us. Those gifts are always tested by Scripture, exercised in love, and used under the care of our elders. The fruit of the Spirit, a life that looks like Jesus, matters more than any gift.

Scripture: John 14:26, Acts 1:8, 1 Corinthians 12:7, Galatians 5:22-23, 1 Thessalonians 5:19-21

People and Sin

We believe every person is made in the image of God, with dignity and worth. We also believe every person is affected by sin and cannot save themselves. We are not inherently good and in need of a little help. We need rescue, and that rescue is found in Jesus alone.

Scripture: Genesis 1:27, Romans 3:23, Ephesians 2:1, Romans 6:23

Salvation

We believe salvation is a gift of God's grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ, not earned by anything we do. God is sovereign in saving, and people are genuinely responsible to respond, and we hold both of these together as Scripture does. Real faith is never alone: it bears fruit in a life of obedience and love. And those who truly belong to Jesus are kept by Him to the end.

For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God's gift — not from works, so that no one can boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9 (CSB)

Scripture: John 3:16, Romans 10:9, James 2:17, John 10:28-29, Philippians 1:6

The Church

We believe the church is God's family, gathered to worship Him, grow in Christ, serve one another, and reach our community and the world. We are committed to being led by a plurality of male elders, supported by deacons. That leadership is still being built; for now Vuka is led by one elder, with counsel from trusted leaders beyond our church. Men and women are equal in dignity, worth, and value before God, and we honour the different roles He gives in the church and the home. There is meaningful, essential ministry here for everyone.

Scripture: Acts 2:42, 1 Timothy 3:1-13, Ephesians 4:11-13, 1 Corinthians 12:12-27, Genesis 1:27, Galatians 3:28

Baptism and the Lord's Supper

We practise believer's baptism by immersion, for those who have personally trusted in Jesus, as a public picture of dying and rising with Him. We share the Lord's Supper together in remembrance of Christ's death for us, until He comes again. The table is open to all who follow Jesus, and each of us is called to examine our own heart before we come.

Scripture: Acts 2:38, Romans 6:3-4, Matthew 28:19, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, 1 Corinthians 11:28

Our Hope

We believe Jesus will return, the dead will be raised, and God will make all things new. For those in Christ, the best is unshakably ahead. This hope changes how we live now.

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, 1 Corinthians 15:51-57, Revelation 21:1-5, Titus 2:13

Where We Fit

We are not tied to a single denomination. We draw gratefully from the wider church: a high view of Scripture and the sovereignty of God, the conviction that the church is a gathered body of believers, and the expectation that the Holy Spirit is at work today. What holds us together is the gospel of Jesus Christ and the authority of God's word.

Scripture: Ephesians 4:4-6, 1 Corinthians 1:10, Jude 3
